Mimi Nguyen
Environmental and Social Justice
Hi! I’m Mimi Nguyen, a Sociology major with a concentration in Law and Society and a minor in Cognitive Science at UC San Diego. As an Environmental and Social Justice Intern on the EB-5 Team at the Center for Community Energy, I support efforts to evaluate the potential of establishing an EB-5 regional center that serves communities of concern in the San Diego area. Through this work, I’ve been learning about demographic disparities, the structure of regulatory agencies in California, and the relationship between law and public policy – key intersections that align with my academic and career interests.
Prior to CCE, I worked on the Mergers and Acquisitions team at Baker & McKenzie Vietnam and contributed to a migration-focused project through UCSD’s Sociology Research Apprenticeship Program. I’ve also taken on leadership roles in student organizations like Kappa Alpha Pi and Sigma Kappa, where I developed skills in community outreach, event planning, and professional development. With a background shaped by both U.S. and Vietnamese contexts, I’m passionate about using interdisciplinary approaches to advance equity-driven environmental solutions.
